We performed complex mechanical and electrical system improvements to the MGO (Marine Gas Oil) System's onboard several Destiny Class Carnival Cruise Line vessels including;

  • CCL Conquest

  • CCL Valour

  • CCL Glory

  • CCL Splendor

  • CCL Radiance

  • CCL Spirit

  • CCL Freedom

  • CCL Liberty

Due to the regulation changes, many ship owners now want to run ships on marine gas oil (MGO), which poses a few challenges for vessels:

  • Lighter MGO fuel needs to be conditioned properly, which means it needs to be the right temperature and viscosity. This needs to be done accurately and efficiently by equipment designed to work with MGO

MGO Systems need to be cooled down even in the supply pump recirculation loop, this means that ship owners need to focus on two things:

  • The system must be able to handle the fuels that are available today

  • It is critical that owners invest in system's that are flexible, and can adapt to new, unpredictable fuel scenarios.

We were tasked with performing retrofits on six vessels, all whilst the vessels were in service. Each vessel retrofit took 10-15 days, once the main works were completed we spent 5 days troubleshooting to ensure each system could be successfully commissioned.

The ultimate aim was to deliver more accurate fuel readings to increase the overall efficiency of each ship.
